Ariana Grande is an American singer, songwriter and actress, born on 26th June 1993 in Florida, USA.
She showed an interest in music and theatre at an early age, as she began performing with Fort Lauderdale Children's theatre when she was younger, taking part in productions including The Wizard Of Oz and Beauty and the Beast. When she was 13, she decided that she wanted to pursue a music career, and wanted to make an R&B album when she was just 14-years-old, but no record producer would take her seriously. She left school when she joined the musical "13" on Broadway, which won her a National Youth Theatre Association Award.
After all of her theatre performances, it wasn't until 2009 when she got her big break after auditioning for Nickelodeon TV show "Victorious", and being cast as Cat Valentine. The show was a great success on Nickelodeon, drawing in the channel's second largest audience for a large-action series with 5.7 million viewers. For the role, Ariana had to dye her hair red every other week, which took its toll on her long locks and caused it to start falling out. Ariana made her first musical appearance on the show's soundtrack "Victorious: Music From The Hit TV Show" on the song "Give It Up". This sparked Ariana to start uploading videos of herself to YouTube, covering songs from Adele, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. She was soon noticed by a friend of Monte Lipman, CEO of Republic Records and later signed a recording contract with the label.
Ariana's debut album "Yours Truly" was released on 30th August 2013 with Republic Records, and proved to be a massive success for the singer as it topped the US Billboard 200 and peaked at number 7 on the UK Albums Chart. The album was later certified Gold in the USA, after selling over 500,000 copies. The first single from the album was titled "The Way", featuring American rapper Mac Miller, and was released on 26th March, 2013. The single peaked at number 9 on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it was certified 3x Platinum for shifting over 2,200,000 copies. "Baby I" was the title of the second single from the album, released on 22nd July, 2013. The single peaked at number 21 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 45 on the UK Singles Chart, but saw its greatest success in Japan where it topped the ZIP Hot 100. The final single to be released from the album was "Right There", on 6th August 2013. The single didn't fair quite as well as its predecessors, peaking at number 84 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 113 on the UK Singles Chart.
Ariana Grande's second and most recent album "My Everything" was released on 22nd August 2014, selling 169,000 copied in its first week and topping the US Billboard 200. "Problem" was the album's first single, featuring Australian rapper Iggy Azalea. The single was a smash hit, topping the UK Singles Chart, and debuting at number two in the US and Australia. The single was followed by "Break Free", featuring German musician Zedd, which was released on 3rd July 2014.The single landed at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 16 on the UK Singles Chart. The last two singles to be released from the album were "Love Me Harder" and "One Last Time".
