about The Weeknd

Canadian singer and songwriter The Weeknd was born Abel Makkonen Tesfaye on 16th February 1990.

He released his debut album "Kiss Land" on 10th September 2013, which went to number two on the US Billboard 200 and the Canadian Albums Chart, as well as peaking at number twelve in the UK. Several singles from the album were released, but didn’t see much chart success.

It wasn't until 2014 when The Weeknd saw singles start to hit high in the charts. He worked with Ariana Grande on "Love Me Harder", which went to number ten in Canada and seven in the US. It was followed by "Earned It", which was his first UK top ten track, where it went to number four. It charted at three in the US and eight in Canada. It was next single "The Hills" that saw his biggest success yet, when it was released in 2015. It became his first number one single in both Canada and the US, as well as going to number three in the UK. Next single “Can’t Feel My Face” replicated the previous with the exact same chart positions in the three countries.

All of those singles were from The Weeknd’s second album “Beauty Behind the Madness” on which he collaborated with stars such as Kanye West, Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey and Labrinth. The album went to number one on the UK, US and Canadian albums charts.
